さと【里】

1 〔村落〕 a village; a hamlet; 〔いなか〕 the country(side); a rural area.

●温泉(_ゆ)の里 a country (hot-water) spa

・日本一の梅の里 the best part of Japan for plum blossoms; Japan's foremost plum-blossom country

・焼き物の里 a pottery-making village [part of the country].

●クマが里に下りて来た. A bear came down onto the plain [out of the mountains].

・もうすぐ里にも雪が降る. There will be snow on the plains [flats] soon.
